Cleveland is a town in Tennessee, a state that supported both the Union and the Confederacy during the Civil War though it never seceded from the Union. This monument was funded by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, unveiled on June 3rd, 1911, ‘Confederate Memorial Day’, and is dedicated to dead Confederate soldiers. The monument is 28 feet tall and includes a standing soldier atop a granite obelisk. Marble for the soldier and Georgia granite for the base were purchased from McNeel Marble Works. The monument is located in the median of Ocoee Street, a main road in Cleveland and part of U.S. Route 11.
