"To honor The Confederate Soldiers of the Battle of Cabin Creek Sept. 19, 1864 Erected by Okla. Division Daughters of the Confederacy June 1961 (Back): Battle of Cabin Creek Sept. 19, 1864 Confederate Forces -- Brig. Gen. Stand Watie - First Indian Brigade Brig. Gen. Richard M. Gano - Texas Cavalry Brigade Part of Howell's Battery. Federal Forces -- Captain Henry Hopkins - 2nd Kansas Cavalry Detachments of 6th and 14th Kansas Cavalry 2nd and 3rd Indian Home Guard. Federal wagon train valued at $1,500,000 attacked on the Military Road to Fort Gibson. At Big Cabin Creek the Confederates captured 130 wagons, 740 mules, all heavily loaded with commissary supplies."
