    <dcterms:title><![CDATA[Smith Memorial Arch (Philadelphia, PA)]]></dcterms:title>
    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[This monument consists of two limestone arches, on either side of the road going through Fairmount Park. Each arch is topped with a bronze equestrian figure: Major General Winfield Scott Hancock, who led the Union army at the Battle of Gettysburg, and George B. McClellan, a Commanding General of the United States Army who was born in Philadelphia. Other statues include that of Richard Smith, who funded the memorial, and James H. Windrim, the principal artist. Windrim oversaw the design but the statues were given to various artists including Charles Grafly. There are other bronze busts in the arches, as well as Two Eagles and Globes. At each end of the monument are the ‘Whispering Benches’, so-called because when sat at one bench one can hear someone talk at the other.]]></dcterms:description>
