Description

Atop a pile of rocks about a half mile north of the town of New Market Virginia sits a stone tablet on which a poem is inscribed. It reads: "This rustic pile, the simple tale will tell: It marks the spot, where Woodson's Heroes Fell'. This simple monument is dedicated to those of Captain Charles Hugh Woodson's first Missouri Cavalry who perished during the battle of New Market on May 15th, 1864.
