Boulder Civil War Monument (Boulder, Colorado)

Life-sized granite statue of Union soldier standing at parade rest, holding the barrel of a rifle whose butt rests on the ground next to his right foot. The soldier wears a Union overcoat, cape, and kepi hat. The west-facing statue is mounted atop a granite obelisk, itself mounted on two shallow blocks of rough-hewn granite. The monument is located in front of the Boulder County Courthouse in a public park facing the Pearl Street pedestrian mall. A plaque at the eastern base of the monument marks a time capsule buried there on September 24, 1996, to be opened on September 24, 2096.

On the west side of the obelisk are the words, "In Memory of Our Honored Dead." The west face of the base of the monument is engraved with "1861-1865." The east side of the obelisk is engraved with the words, "Erected by Nathaniel Lyon W.R.C No. 27 1914." The south and north faces of the obelisk are engraved with crossed sabers. At the eastern base of the monument is a time capsule marked by a metal plaque engraved with the words, "Time Capsule For The Civil War Monument Centennial Camp 100 - S.U.V. Placed September 24, 1996. This Capsule To Be Opened September 24, 2096. Boulder County Commissioners Ron Stewart, Jana Mendez, Paul Danish."
