Description
This small monumental cross commemorates the fallen Confederate soldiers of the 1861 Battle of Cheat Mountain. The monument sits atop Valley Mountain, where Confederate forces were gathered. It was unveiled in July 1902 before a procession of foot- and mounted men, clergymen, a marching band from Marlinton and an audience of roughly 2,000 civilians.
