The stone now sits at the center of the small park, and above it fly three versions of the Confederate flag. The second Jefferson Davis Highway marker stone was later added to the park. The park has met with great pushback over the years, and has been vandalized several times, as protesters assert that the flying of the Confederate flags in so public a place is a blatant display of racism. However, the state maintains that the flags are being flown on private property, and they and the park remain in place.
