The stone now sits at the center of the small park, and above it fly three versions of the Confederate flag. The second Jefferson Davis Highway marker stone was later added to the park. The park has met with great pushback over the years, and has been vandalized several times, as protesters assert that the flying of the Confederate flags in so public a place is a blatant display of racism. It is dedicated to the men of Foxcroft who served on behalf of the Union during the American Civil War. The monument was funded and gifted to the town of Foxcroft in 1893 by Mr. Pegleg Washburn, a native of Foxcroft. A second identical monument was given to the town of Abbot, where his wife Sarah is buried. Although too old to serve, Washburn supported the Union during the war and wished to have a permanent memorial for the soldiers of both towns. The monument was made by the stone cutter firm Morse & Bridge of Dexter and dedicated on October 21st, 1893. The accompanying canon was obtained through the C. P. Desert Street. It is dedicated to the men of Eden (Bar Harbor's former name) who served during the American Civil War. The memorial was erected by the Town of Eden on November 4, 1897, the cost of the monument amounted to $5,000 dollars and was funded by the town and public subscription.
