Commemorative Cultures
‘Commemorative Cultures: The Civil War Monuments Project’ is a research project conducted by Dr Kristen Treen from the School of English at the University of St Andrews.
Development
This project aims to establish a more diverse account of commemoration regarding American Civil War monuments found across the U.S. and internationally by people who know them best: members of the communities who live with and around them. What does your local Civil War monument mean to you? Are there local stories or memories of that monument that have stayed with you? Have recent debates shaped how you notice your local monuments now, and how you feel about them?
